SKITTLES: Sam is the Sticker-Up champion!

FOR the entire season they have to work hard sticking-up the skittles for the teams – but the dedicated band of sticker-ups have now had their chance to shine on the alley.

The Ilminster and District Men’s Skittles League has held its annual sticker-up competition which involved the league’s teams sticker-up playing for the Flying Turkeys Shield.

The event was held at The Bell at Broadway and contested by 12 of the teams with winner Sam Grinter, of the Ashill Inn side, taking victory with 50 pins which included a 12-pin spare.

The 2015 winner Jamie Jones, of Hatch Eggs, was runner-up after hitting 46.

A league spokesman said: “All the sticker-uppers played well with great spirit and skill with none of them disgracing themselves.”

The league spokesman added: “A special thanks Paul and his staff at the Bell Broadway for their kind hospitality and for holding the event, Robbie Robson for marking the board, chairman Mike Drayton for his hard work and kind words.

“We’d also like to thank Ian Miller and Neil Dopson for sticking-up, and Jason Miles for his hard work selling draw tickets raising over £100 for the chairman’s charity.

“Thanks also to all the league players for supporting the event with around 70 league players in attendance in which teams all donated a prize for the chairman’s charity draw.”
