CARNIVAL: Full results – although Ilminster Carnival itself was the real winner on the night!

THE amazing Harlequin Carnival Club took top honours at the annual Ilminster Carnival on Saturday (October 7, 2017) with its fantastic Beautiful Creatures entry.

The colourful and creative jungle-inspired cart scooped a clutch of awards on a night when Carnival was the real winner.

Harlequin took the feature class section along with Best Dressed Driver, Best Music on Float, Best Build Up, Spirit of Carnival and Best Local Float titles.

Harlequin’s big Ilminster friendly Carnival rivals, Gemini CC, also did well with its detailed tableau entitled Steampunk.

As well as taking the tableau awards, Gemini also won Best Make-Up in Procession, Best Costume on Float and the Mayor’s Choice Award.

The Best Routine in Procession award went to Nunsford Nutters CC with Three Little Pigs, while Ilminster’s Xtreme CC took the Best Costume on Foot title with Light ‘Em Up and the walking open class.

Ilminster’s Friends CC won the Best Local Walking entry with Illuminators as well as the Non-Federation Children title, while the Most Colourful Entry award was won by One Plus One CC with Stop the Pigeon which also won the comic section.

Also announced on the night was that the Hannah May Hair Studio in Ilminster had won the Best Dressed Shop Window competition held in the town during the run-up to Carnival.

Other class awards were won by South Brent CC with Birds in Paradise for youth, Zem CC with Showboat in the open class, Andy Tizzard with Rio Rhythm in the adult single and Logan Charles with Indian Dream in the juvenile single category.

Carnival regulars Dee Gees won the pairs class with Ole, while the Chard-based Kelly Leigh School of Dance won the group section with its super Best of British.

Merriott Majorettes and Ilchester Majorettes shared top billing in the majorettes section, while Wookey Hole won the trade category award.
