CARNIVAL: Ilminster Children’s Carnival wows the crowds

AMAZING creativity and wonderful imagination was in abundance as the annual Ilminster Children’s Carnival weaved its magic through the town centre.

Crowds lined the streets on Saturday (September 30, 2017) lunchtime to watch the colourful procession of walking entries – led by Ilminster town crier Andrew Fox and his wife Julie and the fantastic Ilminster Majorettes.

There were some great entries including We Built This City by “veterans” of the Ilminster Children’s Carnival, Alessandra and Georgia Hounsell, and Pigs in Blankets with Oliver and Monica Newbery. CARNIVAL: Ilminster Children’s Carnival wows the crowds

The crowds were taken Back in Time with Jaycee Smart and Riley Loveridge and were At the Bottom of Our Garden with Lana and Mason Suckling.

Scott Probert was out-of-this-world with Starman, while there was plenty of fun to be had with Florence Lewis and her Board Games entry. Kai Newbery was also there to provide some comical match-making with Stupid Cupid.

The Friends Carnival Club, which has been a regular club on the circuit in recent years, was present once again with Illuminators while Steampunk Funk was created with Flora and Martha Godfrey, Millie and Megan Golder and Jack Lewis.

The crowds were taken off to the circus with the 1st Ilminster Brownies, while the tiny tots from Sunny Ile Pre-School depicted Fairy Tales and Fantasies with their entry and Logan Charles was fantastic with his realistic Indian Dream creation.

Ilminster Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Julie Fowler, were among those who gathered at the Ile Youth Centre in Frog Lane to see the entrants before the Carnival made its way off through the town.

“It’s great to see so many very good entries,” said the Mayor. “The children and their parents have made such an effort. It’s lovely to see.”

Another young Carnival “veteran” Alfie Windsor was a popular ice cream seller with his entry entitled Stop Me and Buy One, while Jasmine Farley delighted the crowds with Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo and Hannah Knight was delightful as a Mermaid.

Children from Greenfylde First School, who had taken part in the school’s very own decorated umbrella competition for Carnival, also joined the procession lead by headteacher Claire Oaten.

Organisers would like to thank everyone who took part and supported the 2017 Ilminster Children’s Carnival.
