CARNIVAL: Rain stays away as Carnival weaves its way through South Petherton

THE annual South Petherton Carnival was another big success and organisers were thanking the powers-that-be that the parade was able to enjoy dry weather.

After a week of rain the organisers were keeping their fingers crossed for better weather on Saturday (September 9, 2017) evening and their prayers were answered.

The cavalcade of floats, masqueraders and majorettes, along with the Bournemouth Carnival Band, and the Carnival royalty of eight-year-old Carnival Princess Bethany Bisgrove and Carnival Prince Oliver Coulson, nine, made its way through the streets of South Petherton and was watched by hundreds of people.

Youth Float – 1 Eclipse Juniors CC, Can’t Con Troll The Feeling; 2 South Petherton Scouts Group, Pirates. Walking Adult Single – 1 Kevin Sivell, Spirit of the Wolf; 2 Spirit Carnival Club Rebecca Wilton, Deco; 3 RJCC James Webber, I’m Coming Out 2017. Single Child Walker – 1 Logan Charles, Indian Dream; 2 TA CC Osccar Collins, Jack’s Back Again; Joint 3 Joint Rio Welsh, Boo; and Kai Newbery, Stupid Cupid. Walking Pairs – 1 Inferno CC, Dead Dapper; 2 Florie and Joseph Hodge; 3 Dee Gees CC, Ole; Highly Commended, TA Carnival Club, Pirates Life. Walking Adult Groups – 1 TA Carnival Club, The Show Must Go On. Walking Wheeled Motorised – 1 South Petherton Cricket Club, In a League of Their Own.  Walking Wheeled Non-Motorised – 1 Joshua Windsor/Royals CC, Stop Me and Buy One; 2 Midas CC, The Golden Compass. Group Local Children 5-11 – South Petherton Infants School, Trolls; 2 South Petherton Brownies and Rainbows. Trade Entry – 1 Reylands Commercial. Majorettes – 1 Ilchester Gems; 2 Ilminster Majorettes; 3 Chard Evolution; 4 Merriott Majorettes. Best Music – 1 Joshua Windsor/Royals CC, Stop Me and Buy One. Best Costume and Best Overall – 1 Inferno CC, Dead Dapper.
