CARNIVAL: Buy merchandise from Official Carnival Sellers

CARNIVAL-GOERS at tonight’s (Saturday, October 1, 2016) Ilminster Carnival are being urged to only buy merchandise from official Carnival Sellers.

Thousands of people will be descending on the town centre streets for tonight’s procession which starts at 7.15pm and there will be plenty of market traders selling the usual Carnival goodies.

But this year the committees on all four towns from the South Somerset Federation of Carnivals – Wellington, Ilminster, Chard and Taunton – have teamed-up to have their own people out selling light-up toys and helium balloons.

A Carnival spokesman said: “All the profits will go to help secure the future of Somerset’s Carnivals and also support local charities and organisations that benefit from the collections and grants given out by the Carnival committees.

“Please ensure that you only buy toys and balloons from our official sellers to ensure all profits go back into your town.”

Everything will be priced £4, while whistles will be for sale at just £2.

Items will be sold in the Market Square, Ilminster, and along the Carnival route from 6.15pm – an hour before the procession gets started.

The Carnival sellers will be easily recognisable as they will be wearing the blue tabards as pictured above.

It worked well at last week’s Wellington Carnival, while Chard Carnival will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, and Taunton a week later on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
